As a pastor, you want leaders to surround your ministry and vision for the church. Unless you communicate your vision, expectations, and responsibilities, your leadership will often go a different direction than what God is prompting you to do. 

A holy deacon is one who brings glory and honor to God and to his/her church.  This position is like no other and is immensely needed and valuable, especially in our day and hour. It is more than just conducting business; it is a special position and calling that helps accelerates the church moving forward in a godly direction with godly people.God wants the church to move forward according to His purpose. It should be an honor and privilege to serve as a deacon. When a deacon walks and demonstrates the characteristics of a godly servant, it is beautiful and powerful. 

Whether you are a pastor, a person who wishes to pursue the office of deacon, a newly elected/appointed deacon, or even a seasoned deacon, this book can help you become an even greater deacon to your church. One of the first questions I often ask a perspective deacon is, "Are you wanting to make a difference in your church and community or are you merely wanting to become a clerical decision maker?"

In truth, most deacons are simply elected or appointed without any kind of training or guidelines on how to become an effective deacon. I believe some deacons are set apart and exhibit a standard of excellence in their role as a deacon, but unfortunately those qualities are not usually shared for others to learn. 

This is the reason why I have written this book.  Pastors can use this book in a training or teaching session with their deacons or it can be given to them to read. But I think it is best used in a classroom setting because it allows the pastor to share their expectations, openly discuss each area of this book, and how they can work together to improve their church and be a greater outreach to their community. Again, most churches have never done this before and as a result, they may be operating "less than" of what God wants them to be.

I pray that this book will encourage you to strive to be holy and acceptable before men and to faithfully serve your church. As you are serving, please remember you are not doing this for yourself but for the glory of God! God will anoint you and give you the wisdom when you need it.
