Critical Incident Reporting

The vast majority of churches do not have a consistent way of reporting incidents that occur on church property. It is crucial that every church or organization file such documentation for a number of reasons. Listed below are a few reasons:

1. Reporting critical incents can greatly assist your insurance company when and if such a claim is filed.
    
2. By filing a critical incident report, it shows a concern for those individuals who may be injured, either visitors or members, that the church is doing everything possible for them. This can possibly eliminate a law suit due to the immediate attention the church or staff member is providing.
    
3. Filing a critical incident provides valuable information on who, what, when, and where. It also provides the type of injury, witness information, and the injured party’s response. Without accurate information, it is very difficult to recall specific incidents of the past and can be scrutinized by attorneys if brought into court.
    
4. The church is an organization promotes love and care, such as, “God loves you and so do we!” Or “We care about you and your needs!” But if a church is neglectful in its approach of not filing a report, especially when someone is injured, how does that show compassion?
